West Side Story

More than fifty years ago, a show about New York City changed musical theatre forever. Now, it’s come home to make history once again.

From the first notes to the final breath, WEST SIDE STORY is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents’ book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim — a collection of standards that includes “Tonight,” “America,” “Maria,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere” — is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. And the extraordinary, Tony-winning choreography by Jerome Robbins completely changed the language of Broadway dance.

Finding an ideal balance that offers audiences the most authentic emotional expression of the piece while enhancing its universality is the driving force behind the inclusion of Spanish language dialogue and lyrics in this production of WEST SIDE STORY.  This national tour employs the exact same script as the current Broadway production.  While a number of lines in Act 1 are expressed in Spanish, and certain songs in Act 2 are sung in about 50-50 English-Spanish, the production is largely in English with about 88% of all spoken and sung words in English and 12% in Spanish.  We hope you enjoy this production of WEST SIDE STORY and share our appreciation of classic living musical theatre.
