Take Advantage of Discounted Admission to More Than 40 San Diego Museums & Cultural Sites in February

It’s never a bad month to visit some of Greater San Diego’s world-class museums, but February’s an especially good time to do so.

That’s because it’s San Diego Museum Month, when a free pass gives you half-price admission to more than 40 fantastic (and fantastically varied) institutions belonging to the San Diego Museum Council. From art to history to science to surfboard technology (and a whole lot in between), there’s some great stuff to dig into, and with a well-appointed perch at the Sofia Hotel on West Broadway in Downtown San Diego you’ll find yourself perfectly positioned to take advantage!

San Diego Museum Month: Experience the Breadth & Quality of Local Museums for a Steal of a Deal

Armed with a San Diego Museum Month pass—which, again, doesn’t cost a red cent!—you’ll enjoy discounted entry to a dazzling diversity of San Diego County museums all February long. (Bonus: This leap year means you get an extra day, the 29th, to use that pass of yours…)

The San Diego Museum Month pass—which you can pick up at dozens of local library locations as well as at Macy’s stores—admits as many as four guests at 50% the normal admission price.

Those 40-plus participating institutions include the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, the USS Midway Museum, the San Diego Botanic Garden, the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, the California Surf Museum, and the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum, among many others.

You’re nice and close to many of these museums as a guest here at the Sofia. Your elegant guest room or VIP suite with us, for example, puts you just a stone’s throw from the Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House (410 Island Ave), the oldest building in San Diego. A mere block away from that venerable landmark stands the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum (404 Third Ave), which illuminates and celebrates Chinese-American heritage as well as the art, culture, and history of China.

You’ll also be a hop, skip, and a jump from Balboa Park’s rich lineup of museums and other cultural sites participating in Museum Month, including the San Diego Museum of Art (which we wrote about here at the Sofia blog not long ago), the San Diego Natural History Museum, the Timken Museum of Art, the Japanese Friendship Garden, and Casa de Balboa’s Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego History Center, and San Diego Model Railroad Museum.

You’ll also find the great San Diego Air & Space Museum (2001 Pan American Plaza) in Balboa Park, which anyone with even a passing interest in aviation or space exploration will want to check out. Here you’ll see quite the collection of flying machines: replicas of the Wright gliders, vintage sailplanes and fighters, space capsules, and more. The San Diego Air & Space Museum recently opened a new special exhibition, SPACE: Our Greatest Adventure, divided into four engrossing sections: Welcome to the Space Age, The Race to the Moon, Life in Space Today, and Our Future in Space.

A Month of Discounted Museum-going & Downtown San Diego’s Best Boutique Accommodations

Whether it’s a Mercury capsule, a live, many-armed octopus, a painting by a European master, an interactive science exhibit, or a gorgeous garden-scape, take a deep (and discounted) dive into some topnotch San Diego cultural institutions this February with a San Diego Museum Month pass! We hope you’ll call the Sofia your home-away-from-home in America’s Finest City for the occasion.
