Don't Miss The Farmers Insurance Open At The Iconic Torrey Pines Golf Course

If you’re a fan of golf, you’ll definitely want to book yourself a room in the Sofia Hotel between February 5 and 8.

Why? Well, that’s when the PGA Tour’s “West Coast Swing” hits San Diego in the form of the legendary Farmers Insurance Open!

As it has since 1968, the action will go down on one of the finest venues for the sport anywhere: La Jolla’s Torrey Pines Golf Course. There’s no better spot for enjoying the tournament—and also taking in the pleasures of downtown San Diego—than the Sofia!

The Open

The 2015 Farmers Insurance Open kicks off on Thursday, Feb. 5, with opening ceremonies at 8:15 AM and all the tee-off drama commencing at 8:30 AM on the North and South Courses.

You can either sit back at one vantage and enjoy the proceedings “Parade Style,” or tag along with a specific player or specific group “Cross-Country Style.”

There are plenty of spots for relaxing and refreshing, meanwhile, including the concessions at the Troutman Sanders Grove and the SERVPRO Fan Village.

World-class Players—Including Homegrown Favorites

Though the final lineup won’t be established until January 30, the tentative field for this year’s Farmer Insurance Open is—as always—chock full of top players. Among them is South African-born Justin Rose (the No. 6 player in the World Golf Rankings) and the living legend who’s won the Farmers Insurance Open more times than anyone else: Tiger Woods.

Woods—who cut his teeth on the Torrey Pines course and has mentioned its importance to him—has taken the tournament seven times, most recently in 2013. (He also won the 2008 U.S. Open there.) The only other golfer to have come away from the Farmers Insurance Open with top honors more than twice is San Diego’s native son Phil Mickelson. Mickelson won in 1993, 2000, and 2001, and by all accounts is keen to kick off the 2015 season strong, given he failed to win a tournament last year for the first time since 2003.

Call the Sofia Home During the Tournament

Given we’re an easy 15-mile drive from the Torrey Pines Golf Course, the Sofia Hotel serves as the ideal home-away-from-home during the Farmers Insurance Open. Relive the action on the putting green over dinner at Currant restaurant, then get yourself a luxurious night’s sleep in your elegant guestroom so you’re all set for the next day’s excitement!
