Don't Miss A Major Event At The San Diego County Fair
One of the most exciting months in our neck of the woods is nearly here: It’s time again for the San Diego County Fair!
This year’s “Fab Fair” theme promises loads of new excitement alongside all the outrageous fun and fantastic entertainment this cherished event’s been delivering for better than a century.
Fab Fair Attractions
Fair visitors can expect plenty of “Fab” delights at this year’s festivities, including—naturally—a couple of can’t-miss exhibitions for Fab Four devotees. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ legendary appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and the band’s breakthrough American tour. Fairgoers can marvel at fantastic photographs of this special moment in pop-culture history at “The Beatles! Backstage and Behind the Scenes” exhibit. These astonishing snapshots, taken by LIFE photographer Bill Eppridge, have never been seen in the Golden State—so don’t miss out!
There’s also a “Give Peace a Chance” display focusing on John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s famous 1969 anti-war “bed-in” in Montreal.
It’s also the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. To commemorate, the fair showcases a fascinating JFK exhibit that includes—among many other attractions—replicas of Kennedy’s Oval Office and Air Force One fuselage.
Events and Concerts
Spend a little quality time with the San Diego County Fair calendar: There’s so much to see and do, and you don’t want to miss out on the unique offerings. From June 11 through the 14th, for example, there’s the Charity Fair Horse Show, a worthy benefit exhibition (and county-fair stalwart) featuring a wide array of stunning horses.
Lager- and ale-lovers, take note: The fair presents the San Diego International Beer Festival June 20-22. Some 400 craft brews will be on tap—need we say more?
Or how about the Antique Car Races on June 28, an unforgettable matchup of vintage rides steered by the Horseless Carriage Club and Model T Club?
An impressive roster of musicians takes the stage this year as well, including Darius Rucker on June 13, Creedence Clearwater Revisited on June 19, Smokey Robinson on June 20, and Grand Funk Railroad on July 5.
